Call to Action
Leftism needs a New Face. In the U.S., challenges that require direct, radical action are instead met with milquetoast centrism or far-right reaction while the American Leftist movement squabbles over table scraps.
Wealth inequality has soared to sickening levels, creating a gap so enormous that no amount of reported GDP growth will convince Americans the economy is doing well anymore.
This last summer was the hottest ever recorded, as our 150 year global addiction to fossil fuels is beginning to irreparably damage the world we live in, with worse days on the horizon.
Fascism in America has an ugly new face, an orange bloated buffoon that happens to be the worst demagogue we’ve ever seen. Whole swathes of the country appear ready to accept a fascist dictatorship, and the candidate that is supposed to stop it from happening is languishing in the lowest approval ratings of any first term president, blamed for global economic shocks that are symptoms of staggering wealth inequality.
The acute crises of our day require action. Decisive, tangible, action. Future generations will not be impressed that we fiddled away our time debating the nuances of how progress was made. No-one will remember, or care. At present, the largest American Leftist organization, the DSA, has completely failed to meet the crisis of the hour. There are no champions in Congress, in the public square, or anywhere else that are uniting Americans around a common goal, pushing forward the right ideas at the right time.
Past attempts at addressing wealth inequality pointed out that “We are the 99%”. If that is the case, where is everybody? When we talk to any American, from any walk of life, they bemoan the crushing weight of healthcare costs and inefficiency. How come it is so hard to build consensus to tackle that issue?
There must be a better path forward. We must try to sell our ideas, to unveil the national consensus we know lies just beneath the surface. Hardly anybody actually wants to live in a fascist dictatorship. Hardly anybody wants to never see snow again. Hardly anybody wants to protect the marginal returns of Jeff Bezos at the expense of everybody else. Hardly anybody wants to undo the progress made by the Civil Rights Act. Hardly anybody wants to pay their life savings to receive healthcare. Hardly anybody wants to be in debt forever just to pay for what counts as a basic education.
At the American Social Democrat, our call to action is simple: Join us, as we chart a path forward to unite the national consensus for change. Join us as we choose the path less travelled, that leads to the promised land of Dr. King, that leads to day after day of good news on issues we thought were terminal. Join us, and help us cast aside partisan blinders, reject extremist hard-lining, and create a north star for this country to follow.
We will never achieve this lofty goal until we speak the truth about the rut we’ve fallen into, and decide to do something about it.
